Our basic dog food recipe. No, it doesn't include any of our seasoning blends, but it is made with love (awwww) and prepared in about 30 minutes if you use an Instant Pot.
As the lucky owner of a tiny dog© who only consumes about a pound of meat a week, I make a batch of this food about once a month as her primary sustenance. After it's done cooking, I freeze it into serving-size cubes in silicone ice trays, then store in a freezer bag. When it's time for her meals, I heat them enough to thaw and voila! Fresh, homemade food that's full of protein and fiber for your pup.

Ingredients
- ground beef (4 lbs)
- 1 lg apple
- 1 bunch of carrots (about 7 medium)
- 1 c white rice (raw)
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
I love an Instant Pot for this recipe. You can also use a stock pot on the stove, just follow the instructions and when it's time to pressure cook, put a lid on your pot and cook until the rice is tender (maybe 20 minutes, but check at 15 and taste to make sure it's very soft). Add more water if necessary.
- Set your Instant Pot to saute. Add the meat and cook, stirring every couple minutes, until meat is no longer pink.
- While meat is cooking, dice the apple and carrots.
- Add apple, carrots, rice, and salt to the Instant Pot. Stir well to mix. Add water to just cover.
- Pressure cook for 7 minutes. You can use natural pressure release or vent the steam, it's pretty forgiving.
- Freeze the food in batches, using silicone ice trays that fit a serving size amount of food for your pup.
- Store in freezer bags and thaw/heat lightly to serve!
